The Geneva airport is the second largest airport of Switzerland. With over 11 million passengers every year, the resulting requirements on the mobile communication of employees are very high. Consequently, a continuous and stable communication must be ensured to maintain the effective traffic of passengers and goods. For this reason, we were authorized in 2007 to equip the airport area with our TETRA mobile radio system.
The expansion with redundant components in the year 2009 confirms the uncompromising flexibility of our system. As part of this step, we performed an upgrade of the existing system during ongoing operation.

The high traffic volume at the Geneva airport requires a fast, adaptive communication within the ground personnel. The special requirement consisted of: More than 1,000 subscribers have to be combined dynamically into call groups which are each responsible for one of the aero planes present. Our TETRA mobile radio system provides the ideal solution for the Geneva airport.
Our powerful TETRA mobile radio system ACCESSNET®-T guarantees the subscribers a reliable communication over the entire airport area.
Because of the high customer-specific requirements on the functionality of the group calls, we integrated the object call server. This innovative solution automatically groups radio subscribers into call groups. As a result, a call group, e.g. consisting of cleaning, fleet and security personnel as well as baggage service personnel, is generated for a landing aero plane. This automatic function effects a significant increase in efficiency in handling and preparing aero planes.
Our mobile radio solution in detail
For the Geneva airport, we implemented an individually adapted ACCESSNET®-T mobile radio system based on the TETRA standard. Four base stations are connected to two switching nodes. Three base stations are integrated as outdoor stations each with two carriers and one as indoor station with three carriers. Thanks to the highly redundant system design, the communication system remains stable, even in case of major faults, such as the failure of individual locations.
Special applications expand the scope of functions: With the help of the Trunked Radio Dispatcher and the Network Management Centre, subscriber data is managed and controlled via a commercial PC. Voice and data recorder allow recording calls and transmitted data.
The customer-specifically created object call server represents the special characteristic of our TETRA solution. The automatic call group creation translates into an enormous increase in efficiency in the short time for preparing an aero plane.
Our solution integrated one of the largest TETRA mobile radio systems in Switzerland. It provides the Geneva airport a powerful, robust and individually customized communication system.
