Challenge

Mulchen Firefighters were facing a serious communication deficiency due to the lack of suitable hills for the installation of repeaters. This situation made effective coordination during emergencies difficult. In addition, the old equipment presented problems such as limited coverage and high costs, which prevented all firefighters from having access to a personal radio.

Solutions

In 2021, Hytec installed Hytera DMR repeaters and designed a communications network that significantly improved the coverage and quality of communications in the region. Since then, the Mulchen Fire Department has begun replacing its old terminals with Hytera DMR radios. Currently, they have a fleet of more than 57 terminals, ensuring technological evolution.

Pseudo Trunking, a patented technology from Hytera, increases user capacity in digital communication networks by replicating the functionalities of a trunked network without the need to implement a complex infrastructure. In a Hytera Pseudo Trunking system, repeaters broadcast a signal that informs radios of available channel resources. This allows the radio to switch to an available channel slot to communicate, maximizing system efficiency.

About Mulchén

Mulchén is a city and commune in Bío Bío Province of Bío Bío Region, Chile. It was first settled in 1871 by soldiers during the so-called Pacification of Araucania. In 1875 Mulchén was officially founded.

Communications are going very well and we want to continue growing. We have had an excellent experience with Hytera. Hytec has been a fundamental pillar in communications. Initially, we were a little reluctant to change brands because Hytera was new to the Chilean market, but today we are a reference for other fire departments. The quality of the equipment is impressive: we had a case of a piece of equipment that fell into the water and was recovered 48 hours later, and it continues to work perfectly. With Hytera, our communications are really professional.

Alejandro Neira Cáceres, Superintendent of the Mulchen Fire Department

Benefits

1. Better audio quality:

• Hytera’s pseudotrunking technology allows for more work groups with the same infrastructure, eliminating bottlenecks.

• GPS functionality provides real-time location of elements in the field, improving coordination and safety.

2. Regulatory compliance:

• Hytera solutions comply with Decree 125 , which regulates the minimum quality and safety elements for emergency networks.

3. Cost reduction:

• The new equipment has reduced maintenance and replacement costs compared to older equipment. This is due to both the robustness of the devices and the ongoing technical support provided by Hytec.

4. Local support:

• Hytec has been a strategic ally, offering high-quality training and technical assistance. This has allowed the Mulchen Firefighters to solve communication problems with greater autonomy.
