Johannesburg, South Africa - November 26, 2025 - Hytera Communications, a leading global provider of critical communications technologies and solutions, supported frontline connectivity for public safety and emergency teams operating across Johannesburg and Cape Town during the G20 Leaders’ Summit, held on 22-23 November, 2025.

While the G20 Summit’s communications arrangements were independently managed by the South African government, frontline agencies responsible for city safety and emergency response—including the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the City of Cape Town and Western Cape SAPS relied on their existing Hytera TETRA and broadband-capable models as part of their daily operational equipment throughout this period. These teams formed a critical presence in high-activity areas such as transport hubs, event routes, and public gathering points, where seamless communication played a key role in maintaining coordinated operations.

With Hytera’s professional radios already deployed across various municipal, policing, and emergency units, officers and responders were able to maintain reliable voice and data communication during their routine duties throughout the Summit. The ability to stay connected across dynamic environments helped enhance situational awareness, coordination, and responsiveness while cities welcomed international delegations and increased visitor flow.

“High-profile events place significant demands on frontline operations, and dependable communication is fundamental to effective coordination,” said Mark Zheng, Managing Director of Hytera Southern Africa. “We are honoured that our technologies continue to play a role in supporting the day-to-day work of public safety agencies across South Africa, especially during moments of global attention.”

Hytera has been present in Southern Africa for more than 15 years, working alongside public safety agencies, municipal authorities, emergency responders, and conservation units. From metropolitan policing to national parks anti-poaching teams, Hytera’s communication solutions help support the essential services that safeguard communities across the country.

As South Africa hosted its first G20 Leaders’ Summit, Hytera reaffirmed its commitment to empowering local organizations with reliable, scalable communication tools that strengthen safety, resilience, and collaboration—both during major events and in everyday operations.
